FAQ’s

What is UNLAD?

UNLAD, which means "progress or development" in Filipino, stands for Unified Livelihood and Advocacy for Development International, Inc. It's the socio-civic and livelihood skill training arm of the Church of Christ, dedicated to combating poverty through entrepreneurship programs and sustainable livelihood projects for both Church members and non-members.

How did UNLAD start?

UNLAD traces its roots to the vision of Brother Felix Y. Manalo, who recognized the need for alternative sources of income for community members beyond their regular jobs. This vision led to the establishment of training programs in sewing and barbering during the early years of the Church. In 1972, Brother Eraño G. Manalo, then Executive Minister, founded the New Era Training Center in Tayuman, Manila, later relocating it to Palanca Street, Manila, to further enhance livelihood skills. Building upon this legacy Brother Eduardo V. Manalo initiated the "Social Development Services"(SDS) program in 2001, continuing Brother Eraño G. Manalo work. Under Brother Angelo Eraño V. Manalo's leadership as the coordinator of the Christian Family Organizations (CFO) in 2010, the program expanded. To extend its impact globally, Brother Eduardo Manalo spearheaded the creation of UNLAD International, Inc. in 2013, with support from Brother Angelo Eraño Manalo, Brother Glicerio B. Santos Jr., and Sister Anita P. Santos, UNLAD International was officially registered with the Philippine Government on March 17, 2013.
